The Prius Plug-In is similar in concept to the P acura rius hybrid in the sense both are powered by Toyota's gas-electric Hybrid Synergy Drive. However, the two vehicles employ different battery packs. The Prius Plug-In will come equipped with a larger, higher-capacity lithium-ion battery pack. Once this battery pack is discharged, Prius Plug-In changes to hybrid mode. This battery pack can also be charged by plugging the vehicle into a 110v outlet for 3 hours or a 220v outlet for 1.5 hours. In short, Prius Plug-In can use all-electric power for many short trips or hybrid power for longer trips.
