1965 DODGE Deora Concept

DODGE Deora Concept1965

1965 DODGE Deora Concept created by legendary hot rodders Mike and Larry Alexander is one of the pickups that won the Ridler Award at the 1967 Detroit Autorama, and a year later immortalized as one of 16 Hot Wheels model cars.

Unique design based mengamil Dodge A100 comes without a side door but has a glass opening to the front as opposed to hatchback that was basically the back of the 1960 Ford Station Wagon is rotated 180 degrees.

Two of Alexander's famous in Detroit, Mike and Larry have a lot of praise with their works. One of them customized Ford Victoria who was nicknamed 'the Victoria'. In 1964, they wanted to make a truck (pick-up) custom advanced again by using a mini pick-up from one of the Big Three, the three major brands at that time: General Motors, Chrysler and Ford.

They embrace Harry Bentley Bradley, a talented friends in the field of design they knew when he was a student at Pratt Institute in New York City. His plan was simple, Alexander brothers believe that Dodge will provide pick-up A100 to be customized so look futuristic sketches made Harry, and when the Chrysler Corporation as the Dodge brand holders do not want, they will try to Ford Motor Company to Ford pickups Ecoline.

A few years later, according to Motor Trend magazine writer, Dodge respond positively Harry design. But Harry has a wild imagination who essentially wanted to make a pick-up with integrated tub body. And the extreme he did not want any one to break the line on the side. That means the door should be eliminated.

The problem is, how to passengers inside? Smart answer is: Through the windshield. Chrysler parties were stunned and donate the A100 to serve as the sacrificial lamb directly invaded by the Alexander brothers.

The idea of intelligent Harry who wants a wide opening front glass with a one-piece model and embrace the hinges hanging duo leaving the problem for Alexander. Because the thickness of the thin roof of the A100 could not bear the weight of the front glass plus frame.

Duo Alexander did not want to lose 'intelligent' than Harry. They decided to adopt the back of the Ford Station Wagon 'Courier' which was adopted in 1960 hinges to be part hanging windshield of their ambitious projects.

Do not stop there. To reduce the level of difficulty of access out of the entry, 'door' before it is added to activate the motor is on a hinged arm holes give to reduce bobotnnya.

There are some interesting parts of this concept vehicle. One was part of the steering wheel butterfly style that reportedly made by the Oldsmobile steering wheel in a miniature airplane. Steering his own box is owned Chevrolet Corvair that has been modified.

Over the entrance was opened, the steering wheel column will incline to the fore to simplify the driver in and out as the handle. To add privacy, the transmission lever moved to the floor with a hook of the engineers of Hurst Performance Products is at the same time maximize performance manual transmission 3-speed Dodge it.

In order for the passenger sitting in the low, 6-cylinder engine displaced tilted back as far as 15 inches to provide room for the bucket seat models. Consequently machines become prominent to the tailgate, but the pick-up this show was never designed as a transport vehicle, so no problem.

Sososknya the lower order, the radiator was also relocated to the sink right in front of an electric fan. Impact, the fuel tank must be moved from its initial position behind the rear axel to a new place in the back of the cabin.

Part tub, covered with a hard tonneau is secured with a lock made of chrome hood so no one could see the magic behind the tonneau cover.

Long story short, the Detroit Autorama in 1967, Deora had attracted the jury and successfully won 9 trophies plus the Don Ridler Award is a yearning for the best custom cars. And ironically, that day as well as a sad day for the Alexander brothers, because in the morning, their father left to face the Creator.

The mother wisely convinced that their father would want Deora shown, and interestingly, the exhibition is the only brothers Alexander displays the vehicle in a competition and managed to snatch a series of coveted awards that many people.

At present after more than 40 years since the first created, Deora still resembles the future cars. And it should be noted that this vehicle was designed in the era where the collision test and feature 'crumple zone' had never been heard before. So there's no design compromises necessary to meet safety considerations. The important moment, a tiny cabin that can be filled by two adult passengers comfortably.
